NOVEMBER MAINSTAGE
Striking in stage presence and with an eloquence of expression that transports and transforms, cellist Sterling Elliott makes his Ann Arbor debut in Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, arguably the greatest concerto ever composed for the instrument. Recipient of the 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant and winner of the 2019 National Sphinx Competition, Elliott’s accomplishments grow by the day.
Music Director Earl Lee takes the stage to conduct Hungarian composer György Kurtág’s plaintive Ligatura – Message-Hommage à Frances-Marie Uitti (The Answered Unanswered Question), plus Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 3, described by the composer’s friend and advocate Eduard Hanslick as “artistically the most nearly perfect” of Brahms’ symphonic output.
